Federal Court Judge Dept: After listening to arguments at a hearing that lasted for much of the day, a federal court judge ruled that deportation proceedings against Paola Ortiz would go ahead as planned, according to Montreal Gazette. Ian Demers, counsel for Justice Canada, argued at the hearing that halting the proceedings "takes for granted" that Ortiz would not receive protection from her allegedly abusive ex-spouse and that her children would not receive proper medical care in Mexico and a 31-year-old mother of two has been told to leave Canada first thing on Tuesday morning after a request to halt deportation proceedings against her was rejected Monday. Ortiz, who says she fled Mexico to Canada in 2006 to escape physical abuse at the hands of her husband, a federal police officer in Mexico, must present herself at Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport by 7 a.m.
