Doctors And Nurses: Menial Jobs

Health Care System Dept: Edward Leach states that doctors and nurses are a finite resource and uses that thesis to criticize Gary Mar's views on health care. However, that thesis is absolutely incorrect. While the number of doctors and nurses is finite at a given point in time, that number can be increased if the capacity for medical training is expanded and the scores of highly trained immigrant doctors who live in Canada and waste their talent performing menial jobs are properly evaluated and allowed into the system, according to Calgary Herald. I have to agree, though, with Leach that payment system reform can definitely be used to increase the health-care system's effectiveness and re: "Get rid of fee-forservice payments," Letter, Aug. 18. On the other hand, there may be a limit on how many of these doctors and nurses the public system can afford. However, stating dogmatically that highly trained individuals are a fundamentally finite resource is flawed and precludes an open-minded discussion on the topic. (www.immigrantscanada.com).
