Abusive Police Dept: Ortiz is to be flown to Mexico on Tuesday along with her two Canadian-born children. Canadian immigration officials have refused her request, arguing that services exist to support victims of conjugal violence in Mexico, according to Montreal Gazette and refugee claimant Paola Ortiz, who has been in Montreal for five years requesting permanent residence status because she says she fears her abusive police officer husband in Mexico, was ordered deported Thursday at an immigration hearing. Ortiz, her lawyer and immigration-rights group Solidarity Across Borders contend such services are almost non-existent, and her husband's position as an officer with the federal police makes him immune from prosecution. Lawyer Stewart Istvanffy will request permission Friday to make an appeal in Federal Court to have her deportation stayed to have more time to argue her case. div
