Federal Civil Service Jobs Dept: "To take 100 jobs at almost $60,000 a year out of a very small community, there s nothing for these people to go to," Mike Duhamel of Glace Bay said at a rally in Halifax, according to The Chronicle Herald. Duhamel, 32, said he had a term job in Glace Bay, meaning he won t have the option of taking a job elsewhere. He said he s staying in Glace Bay, where he was born and raised and the pending loss of federal civil service jobs in Glace Bay and Sydney will hurt clients and the local community as well as the workers, union leaders said Friday. Duhamel, president of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union Local 80217, said the cuts will leave about 20 front-line workers in Sydney. Forty positions will be gone, as will 60 call-centre jobs in Glace Bay.
