Poznan Poland: Immigration

Lived Reality Dept: It was during the year-long creative process for Quiet that Zaides and his three other dancers spent a month in Poznan, Poland living in an apartment together. Zaides said that's when the four of them -two Jews and two Arabs - made the greatest breakthroughs individually and collectively, according to Vancouver Sun. Of the year spent working on Quiet, about five months were spent working on the choreography. The other seven months took place outside the studio, trying to establish the kind of trust and communication needed to create a dance work about such a politically charged issue as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and for the Tel Aviv-based choreographer and dancer Arkadi Zaides, leaving Israel helped him see his country more clearly. By being in a territory that was neither Israeli nor Palestinian, the two camps could come together as equals. It also allowed everyone to step away from the daily lived reality in Israel to see it more clearly. As reported in the news.
