Abiding Citizens Dept: I am thankful that the Toronto Star continues to keep this issue alive. As an immigrant to this country, I have always marvelled at the law and order in this society and held the various institutions of government in high esteem. Sadly, after the G20 summit where I witnessed the callous disrespect by the police and the various levels of government for individual rights and freedom and the subsequent reluctance by officers in identifying their own, my loyalty has shifted. How can the government criticize other countries for abusing their citizens when they do the same? How can police count on the cooperation of law-abiding citizens when they hide behind the thin blue line? Hopefully, decency and justice will prevail and those who abuse the law will be held accountable, according to The Star. Shame on Stephen Harper, Dalton McGuinty and Rob Ford for not taking a stand on the worst human rights violation in Canadian history. Are they not politically savvy enough to realize they can be scoring big points with the people by standing up for what is right? Shame on Tim Hudak as well. For he is only attacking McGuinty on his tax record, while this is a much bigger issue, and he is giving McGuinty a free pass on this one. At this point, I'd settle for even some fake righteous indignation. Too bad Andre Marin isn't running for premier and re: Who did this to our city?Editorial, June 24 Mortlan Achaia , Brampton As
