Paul Vermeersch: Rabindranath Maharaj

Homer In Flight Dept: Maharaj, the critically acclaimed author of books such as A Perfect Pledge, Homer in Flight, and The Interloper, won the Englishlanguage prize over a shortlist that included: Emma Donoghue for Room, which won the 2010 Rogers Writer's Trust of Canada Fiction Prize and was nominated for the Man Booker Prize; James FitzGerald for his memoir What Disturbs Our Blood, which won the 2010 Writers' Trust of Canada Non-Fiction Prize; Ken Sparling for his novel, Book; Paul Vermeersch for his poetry collection, The Reinvention of the Human Hand; and Michael Winter for his work of documentary fiction, The Death of Donna Whalen, according to Calgary Herald. The winners of the Trillium Best Book Awards each receive $20,000 -while winners of the Trillium Book Award for Poetry and the French-language Trillium Book Award for Children's Literature each receive $10,000 and rabindranath Maharaj's The Amazing Absorbing Boy, a novel about a young immigrant who experiences Toronto through the prism of comic books, has won the Trillium Book Award for best book, it was announced on Friday. Estelle Beauchamp won the French-language Trillium Book Award for Un souffle venu de loin. Other winners included: Jeff Latosik, Tiny, Frantic, Stronger, winner of the English-language Trillium Book Award for Poetry; and Daniel Marchildon, La premiere guerre de Toronto, winner of the French-language Trillium Book Award for Children's Literature.
