Violence Against Women Dept: Attorney General Chris Bentley announced the new funds for the South Asian Women s Centre at a news conference Wednesday at the agency s Lansdowne Ave. office, according to The Star. This is enormously important for some of the most vulnerable people in society, said Bentley. Ottawa cut funding that this centre uses for extremely important and good work. We saw an opportunity to step in to provide some support for the South Asian Women s Centre, for some of the most vulnerable in society at a time of their greatest need and a Toronto immigrant agency that recently lost its federal funding and was forced to cut services was given a lifeline by the province in the form of a $150,000 grant for a project aimed at combatting domestic violence, forced marriages and human trafficking. The grant will help train front line workers to address issues of violence against women and develop information guides in Tamil, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali and Punjabi. As
reported in the news.
