Bill 20, The Workers' Compensation Amendment Act, was supported unanimously by all parties in the legislature The provincial government has extended workers' compensation benefits to the province's 10,000 volunteer, part-time and casual firefighters. In an amendment introduced Tuesday and expected to pass this week, volunteer firefighters suffering from work-related cancer will receive the same benefits as full-time firefighters. "With 14 cancers covered by the WCB . . . that will definitely give the volunteer firefighters some peace of mind, not only for themselves but for their families, knowing that through the process of their recovery or, God forbid, an eventual death, their families will be taken care of."
