Eastern Border Dept: For more than 40 years Canada's drive to dilute its dependence on commerce with the United States, which now accounts for about 68 per cent of two-way trade, has focused on Asia, according to Vancouver Sun. It's hard to find matching figures, but there is a consensus among Canadian government officials that Canadian investment in the Caribbean and Latin American countries now totals around $150 billion, about the same if not more than the investment in Asia from the dateline to the eastern border of Afghanistan and including Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific and british Columbia and Canada's gateway for two-way trade and investment may be pointing in the wrong direction. But in the last two decades Canadian companies and investors have been following and taking advantage of the dramatic political, economic and structural changes in Latin America and the Caribbean. As
