But the old Harper re-emerged this week when 500 pages of his quotes were leaked to the media by the Liberals and in the election, Stephen Harper has taken great pains to avoid saying anything controversial while maintaining a robot-like calm and keeping his deepest opinions generally under wraps. Harper adopted the low-key strategy to avoid reminding voters of how he operated earlier in his career outspoken, confrontational, dogmatic and strident on everything from medicare to human rights, immigration and political correctness.
