Ron Johnston: Joan Johnston

Great Wall Of China Dept: Ron's passion for life was obvious to all who met him. His wide-ranging interests drew him to people and opportunities that intrigued, stimulated and challenged him. He was in his 40s when he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, and last year he joined a group of pilots flying from Springbank to Alaska, touching down to explore the towns and landscape, according to Calgary Herald. Ron moved to Calgary in the spring of 1976, and worked in the investment industry for more than 23 years specializing in small cap and startup financings before becoming CEO of Expander Energy in 2005, a company focused on producing engineered synthetic fuels from renewable and low carbon resources and ron Johnston grew up in Thompson, Man., the oldest son of Dr. Blain and Joan Johnston. The pioneering spirit that made his family one of Thompson's founding families and his father its first doctor was an integral part of Ron and he returned to the North often. Ron loved to travel and approached it like he did life: with an open mind and an open heart. He climbed the Great Wall of China, walked the Mongolian plains, crossed Europe and North America numerous times, relaxed in Mexico and the Caribbean and pursued business opportunities in Egypt, Madagascar and Tanzania. As reported in the news.
