Rough Waters Dept: The ANSA news agency said about 200 people were believed to be aboard the rickety boat. Coast guard officials who intervened to rescue the boat have saved 47 people, while the rescue efforts were still going on for the others, according to CBC. More than 15,000 North Africans have fled to Lampedusa since mid-January, when Tunisia overthrew its longtime dictator. The influx has overwhelmed the island of 5,000 residents and left thousands of immigrants with little services and italian news reports say that a boat crammed with immigrants has capsized off the coast of Lampedusa, a tiny Italian island close to North Africa.
