National Campaign Dept: This time, however, as we lunge into yet another federal election, there has been more talk in the media and, it seems, around the water cooler about the health of our national leaders, with the spotlight mainly on Jack Layton, according to CBC. From what I can see, much of the concern people have for his health is genuine. People worry about his ability to tolerate the gruelling schedule of a national campaign, particularly in a country as vast as Canada where there is a lot of ground to cover in the next few weeks and a healthy debate about political issues is one thing. But a debate about a politician's health? Well, that's something most Canadians have tended to avoid. The NDP leader is battling prostate cancer and recently had surgery on his hip, which forces him to walk with a cane. As
reported in the news.
