Convention Refugee: Hague Convention

Living In Norway Dept: Josette Rosezweig Issasi, 14, was removed from Canada in October 2010 after her mother applied for her return to Mexico under articles of the Hague Convention that deals with international custody disputes. The girl's mother, Marlen Issasi Rodriguez, made the application claiming that her daughter was being held illegally in Toronto by her ex-husband's family, according to Montreal Gazette. Her father, Kenneth Rosenzweig Espinal, who is now living in Norway, appealed the decision, arguing that Issasi's rights as a refugee were being infringed and a teenager who was living in Canada for two years as a refugee claimant should not have been sent back to Mexico before getting a risk-assessment hearing, Ontario's top court ruled this week. In April 2010, Issasi was declared a convention refugee by Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board after she told them that she was being abused by her mother. As reported in the news.
