Canadian Residents: Voting System

Loophole Dept: But what should concern us is the fact that Elections Canada sends out more than 23 million voter cards without having the ability to ensure these cards are sent only to Canadian citizens, according to The Star. It s hard to quantify the number of people Canadian residents but not citizens who take advantage of this huge loophole in our voting system. But considering that many ridings are won or lost by a few hundred votes, we can assume that in some cases illegal voters are skewing the will of legitimate Canadian citizens and a few days ago, Elections Canada sent voter cards to people who had died several years ago. Irony aside, mistakes like this are bound to happen. Canada is sensitive about protecting its institutions, but we fail to make sure that thousands of foreigners will not vote to elect our governments and tamper with the will of Canadian citizens.
