Chinese Community Dept: After three weeks on the vessel, he arrived in British Columbia, eager to create a better life for his family in the land his Chinese community believed would offer a "world of opportunities," Wong said, according to Montreal Gazette. Wong, born and raised in Vancouver, moved to Shanghai to study Mandarin with a University of Victoria scholarship in 2005. She has not returned to Canada.
