Justin Trudeau: Family Honour

Calgary Herald Dept: Trudeau wanted the guide to use the words "totally unacceptable," which he said was "clear, strong and objective.", according to Calgary Herald. As for Canadian culture being more civilized than a culture in which honour killings take place -yes, it is. That's why we don't allow women to be murdered for the sake of some primitive tribal notion of family honour. And that, too, is why the immigrants fled those cultures to come to ours and justin Trudeau has apologized for, and retracted, his criticism of the use of the word "barbaric" to describe honour killings in the federal government's new citizenship guide. Trudeau, the Liberal party's immigration critic, originally said Ottawa should make an "attempt at responsible neutrality" to avoid creating an impression that Canadian culture is civilized while other cultures are not. Good for Trudeau that he realized the ambit of his error and backed away from it. But his faux pas offers a good opportunity to point out that the phrase "totally unacceptable" comes nowhere near "barbaric" in its clarity, strength and objectivity, for there is simply no better way to describe a crime as vile as honour killings. As reported in the news.
