Heart Failure: Inquest

Health Records Dept: The recommendations come at the end of the inquest investigating the death of a Roma refugee at the Metro West Detention Centre in Toronto, according to CBC. "Mr. Szamko got seriously ill on exactly the day before he was supposed to be deported, so all the staff at the correction facility were under the impression he's faking an illness, just to prevent his deportation," said Paul St. Clair, who represented the dead man's family in the inquest and a coroner's inquest recommended Friday that the health records of people waiting for deportation from the country be readily available to staff at facilities where they're being held. Jan Szamko was being held at Metro West on Dec. 9, 2009, when he died. The official cause of death according to the coroner's office was heart failure. As reported in the news.
