Federal Immigration Dept: Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney confirmed the policy yesterday on Twitter, according to Montreal Gazette. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty told CBC, "it applies across the entire country. We have applications from various cities in the country for various types of arenas and stadiums ... we're going to stay away from subsidizing professional sports." The federal government yesterday made it clear that it won't fund arenas or other facilities for professional sports teams, a move Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume called "suicidal" as his city seeks help to pay for a proposed $400-million NHL-calibre arena. "Delighted with today's announcement that the government will NOT create a program to subsidize professional sports arenas," he tweeted. As
