Colin Adams Dept: A jury of five men and six women deliberated for 55 hours starting last Monday, but were discharged Sunday morning by Ontario Superior Court Justice Robert Clark after announcing they were at an impasse in the case of Mohammad Hamadeh, 43, who took the stand to declare his innocence of second-degree murder, according to The Star. The married father of three remains in custody and returns to court March 16, at which time the issue of a new trial is expected to be addressed and a mistrial has been declared in the trial of a man accused of viciously stabbing and beating his 81-year-old neighbour before going out on a spending spree with her credit card. Sometimes simple issues are the most contentious, said defence lawyer Colin Adams after the mistrial was declared. In this case it boiled down to whether they believed him or not.
