Ghettoization Dept: There is an important distinction between multiculturalism as understood by Europeans, who introduced it late in a vain attempt to repair the damage done by the ghettoization resulting from years of hostility to immigrants becoming citizens, and Canadian multiculturalism, which was instituted to facilitate the integration of a welcome immigrant population, according to Montreal Gazette. Louise Beaudoin, faithful to a European view, disingenuously avoids this vital distinction, preferring to fool us into fearing somebody else's problem and re: Fair play for Louise Beaudoin" Letters, Feb. 12 . Indeed, Canadian multiculturalism, welcoming and benign, is indistinguishable from the "interculturalism" so smugly proposed by the letter-writer. As
