Hopeless State: Bogeymen

Sovereign Country Dept: The people of Egypt and Tunisia have spent decades paying the price for American fears and security preoccupations in the Middle East. The same can be said of Central Americans who died in the hundreds of thousands in the 1980s to keep the United States safe from communism, shortly before it imploded of its own weight. Today Latin America, especially Mexico, is caught in a terribly destructive and futile war to try to defeat one of the U.S. s new favourite bogeymen drugs. And Senator Joe Lieberman is threatening Canadians with a visa because of our liberal refugee and immigration regime and lax approach to marijuana, according to The Star. Stephen Harper may want to bind us ever more tightly into this hopeless state of affairs. But the rest of us should not allow ourselves to be dragged any further into this morass. We are a sovereign country and we need to start acting in the world as such once again. The worst thing that could happen to us would be to confuse our interests with those of our neighbour. They are not the same and re: What are we prepared to trade? Feb. 3 We should all know by now that it is impossible to make Americans feel safe. We could build a wall around Canada and we would still not satisfy their fears and insecurities because these derive from their own self-destructive foreign policies and the failure of their education system at home. As reported in the news.
