Montreal Metro Dept: Federal Court Judge Yves de Montigny announced yesterday that Morales would not be deported. Immigration Canada was calling for Morales's expulsion because of his criminal record for a series of minor crimes committed between 1994 and 2004, which violated the terms of his permanent resident status, according to Montreal Gazette. Counsel for Immigration Canada said while it was an unfortunate situation, Morales had created the problem by breaking the law several times over 10 years and not dealing with deportation proceedings that began in 1998 and montreal metro musician Victor Morales, who was scheduled to be deported to Chile Feb. 8 after emigrating to Canada 32 years ago at age 7, has been granted a reprieve. Morales's lawyer argued in Federal Court Monday that his client had reformed since 2004 and paid his debt to society in the criminal justice system. Sending somebody who had lived in Quebec almost his entire life to a country he no longer has ties to and severing links with his teenage sons and extended family was unfair punishment, Stewart Istvanffy said. But cases like these with people being deported for minor crimes were becomingly increasingly common in Canada, he added. As
