Breaking The Law Dept: Canada has been a country ruled by law. When an individual breaks the law, after due process, they are disciplined through fines, prohibitions or actual incarceration. When a government breaks the law, citizens have only one recourse to change the government, according to The Star. When he answered his conscience and notified the government, he was ignored. When he tried to alert the nation that the government was breaking the law, he was maligned personally by Harper s ministers although they offered no proof that Colvin was wrong. In fact, the government knew he was right and protesting Egyptians have reminded the world that governments that act illegally should and can be changed. Richard Colvin was a Canadian diplomat who knew Canada was breaking international law by turning over Afghani prisoners to local authorities.
