Clearness Dept: "Perfect day!" he said in his thick Bronx accent. "A beauty," I responded, according to Calgary Herald. Moments like these are our candles in this darkness. They remind us of the good and the predictable. Our dogs need walking. Passing souls need friendly nods and my wife and I were taking our dog, Saide, on our routine Sunday walk along the path by the golf course. A friendly stranger met our gaze. He smiled before glancing up at the clearness of a bright blue Tucson morning. Yet it was not a perfect day and neither was it a beauty. Grandfathers, grandmothers, fathers, husbands, mothers, wives and a child lay dead or wounded. A respected federal judge was among the dead. A federal congresswoman was fighting for her life, with the thoughts and prayers of much of the nation backing her. But as we walked through the sunshine, the man with the Bronx accent and the rest of us needed our routines. As
reported in the news.
