Red Carpet: Dismissals

Congratulation Dept: One was official Globes, the one where movie stars appeared on the red carpet in their clingy dresses or fitted tuxedos, handed each other trophies, thanked their agents, and so on: all the trappings of the Hollywood awards fest, with its air of self-congratulation and Botox, according to Vancouver Sun. The result was a program that presented a commentary on itself as it went along, a post-modern amalgam of flowery gratitude and vicious dismissals, both at the same time and there were two Golden Globe ceremonies on television Sunday night. The second was the meta-Globes, a sort of parody version in which other movie stars mocked the awards and acknowledged their pointlessness even as they waved their awards in the air in triumph.
