Mcgill Students: Immigration

Mainstream Fare Dept: In mid-winter, it's like cheap travel: foreign languages, distant places hopefully with sun and problematic behaviours. And just like modern urban life, you have to be ready to read other people's subtitles as you try to understand their value systems, according to Montreal Gazette. Great writing and filmmaking are structured around value systems. And often art is instrumental in transforming value systems. Which brings me back to Incendies, Villeneuve's recent film now flirting with the international celebrity that comes with Oscar recognition and a trip to Cinema du Parc is one of Montreal's underground pleasures. You can park your car indoors for $2, wander around an excellent food market with a gang of McGill students and watch the crowd assemble while you wait for the underground movie house to open. You can even get a senior rate if you look old enough and catch a 'serious' movie. It might be mainstream fare. It might be indie. It rarely disappoints. We recently saw the excellent story of Facebook, The Social Network. And then there was Denis Villeneuve's Incendies. As reported in the news.
