Immigrants Dept: Suzanne O'Callaghan told News Tuesday she has sold hundreds of paintings in the last 20 years. Her work is in galleries and in corporate and private collections across North America and Europe, but she barely makes a living, according to CBC. She said she is not alone in this situation and a well-known Charlottetown artist is quitting the P.E.I. Council of the Arts saying she has applied for more than 30 grants over the past two decades and been refused every time. 'There are too many artists who have never received support, who are afraid to say what they think.' Suzanne O'Callaghan Materials can be expensive. Her last project a series of paintings of faces of Island women from fishers to immigrants cost her $500. She has applied for grants from the P.E.I. Council of the Arts to supplement her income and help pay for supplies more than 30 times, and been rejected every time. Suzanne O'Callaghan is upset some artists receive grant after grant while others receive none. Pat Martel/ As
