Revenue Canada Dept: Investigators say Canadian citizenship and travel documents were fraudulently obtained on behalf of people who weren t even in the country, according to The Star. The operation involved a tight-knit group, some of whom were very familiar with Canada s immigration system, Sgt. Marc LaPort, a spokesperson for the RCMP, said in an interview Thursday night and a Mississauga man, along with a husband and wife from Quebec are to appear in court on Friday after police broke up an elaborate tax and citizenship scam involving hundreds of foreign nationals. It s also alleged that income tax returns, GST rebates, and child-care benefits were also filed for those individuals, resulting in about $500,000 in benefits and tax refunds from Revenue Canada being fraudulently obtained.
