Immigration: Amy Chua

Yale Law Dept: Chua, a Yale law professor and mother of two, is author of the recently published Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. The title refers both to Chua's Chinese zodiac sign -- she was born in the Year of the Tiger -- and to the ferocity of her parenting. This mom leaves quite a bite, according to Vancouver Sun. "Pushed" is putting it mildly: She allows no play dates, no sports, no TV or video games, no choosing their own extracurricular activities, no coming in second in any academic courses, nothing but A-pluses at school and amy Chua is a mother, but then so was Joan Crawford. It's a tough call as to whose theories on child-rearing are now more reviled. Chua scorns the selfactualizing Western style of parenting. She prefers the rigorous, driven upbringing of her own childhood, and in Battle Hymn she tells how she pushed her two daughters to excel as she had. As reported in the news.
