Vancouver Sun Dept: A media report Friday said Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon had announced Canada would "comply with a request from Tunisia" to arrest Belhassen Trabelsi, according to Vancouver Sun. Trabelsi was seen as the leader of the business interests of the former ruling family's clan, and is accused of siphoning billions of dollars out of the country and the Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday denied a report that Canada intends to work with Tunisia to arrest the brother-in-law of that country's former dictator, but maintained some elements of ousted president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's government and family are not welcome in Canada. Cannon's press secretary, however, said the minister was referring to a request to work with Tunisian officials to freeze the assets of Trabelsi, who controlled Tunisia's banking, communications and transport sectors.
