100th Anniversary: Gurdwara

Peary Dept: Abbotsford mayor George Peary officially launched the celebrations on Monday by proclaiming 2011 Year of the Gurdwara, according to CBC. The original immigrants from India came here to work in the lumber industry and the owner of the mill actually donated the lumber, he said and the Abbotsford Gurdawara, the oldest Sikh temple in North America, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. He said a lot of sweat and dedication went into building the temple a century ago. As reported in the news.
