Immigration: Outgoing Woman

Deak Dept: "I was going through a bit of a hard time, and if wasn't for these guys, I'd probably still be down at the Calgary Drop-In Centre trying to find support some place.", according to Calgary Herald. Then, a friend brought her to the Women's Centre. "This has been a big lifesaver for me," says Beatrice Deak, a pleasant, outgoing woman in her late 40s who has volunteered to talk about what the Women's Centre has meant for her since first seeking out its services it out a year ago. Born and raised on the Siksika Nation, Deak married in Calgary and raised three children before her world fell apart, leaving her homeless and unable to work, with a life defined by dependence on the Salvation Army and the drop-in centre for daily food and shelter. As reported in the news.
