Air Canada Flight: Immigration And Refugee

Elderly Passenger Dept: Immigration and Refugee Board adjudicator Lynda Mackie said the man's family has gone to extreme lengths -- including an apparent payment of $30,000 to a human smuggler -- to get him to Canada, according to Vancouver Sun. The young man -- believed to be a Chinese national in his 20s -- boarded an Air Canada flight in Hong Kong destined for Vancouver in October while wearing a mask that made him appear to be an elderly Caucasian and a young Asian man who disguised himself as an elderly passenger on a flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver has been ordered to remain in custody because he is too great a flight risk. If the man were ordered to a removal hearing, the chances were too high that he'd fail to appear. The man has shown that he is willing to do whatever it takes to get to Canada even though he admitted he knew it was wrong, Mackie said. As reported in the news.
