Public Scrutiny: Publication Ban

Chinese Man Dept: However, Daphne Shaw Dyck, the immigration adjudicator hearing the case, imposed a publication ban Wednesday on the man's name and anything else that might identify him, according to CBC. A lawyer for the man had argued the media should be barred from hearing evidence in the case, saying that further public scrutiny could put his client's life or the lives of his family at risk and reporters will be allowed to cover the refugee hearings of a Chinese man who snuck into Canada wearing a mask disguising himself as an elderly white man, an immigration official has ruled. Even though the man's picture, with a black bar over his eyes, has been leaked to the media and widely published around the world, his identity hasn't been revealed, Dyck ruled. As reported in the news.
