Public Inquiry Dept: The petition is from a private resident and is sponsored by Amir Khadir, a Qu bec Solidaire member of the legislature, according to CBC. Liberals, including Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil, said that despite the petition, the party isn't backing down on those issues and an online petition calling for Quebec Premier Jean Charest's resignation has collected more than 50,000 signatures within 24 hours of being posted on the national assembly's website. It calls for Charest, a Liberal, to quit for refusing to open a public inquiry into allegations of corruption in the construction industry and for the government's determination to develop shale-gas exploration in the province.
