Immigration Minister: Jim Prentice

Regional Minister Dept: The regional minister job became vacant last Thursday when Calgary Centre-North MP Jim Prentice announced he's leaving politics at year's end to take a senior position in the banking sector, according to Calgary Herald. Although the prime minister is from Calgary, the regional minister acts as the primary liaison between the federal government and local political, community and business leaders and p rime Minister Stephen Harper has appointed Immigration Minister Jason Kenney to the prominent role of regional minister for southern Alberta, and one of his first tasks will be to meet with Calgary's new mayor. Kenney, who has represented the riding of Calgary Southeast since 1997, said Tuesday he's looking forward to the added responsibility. As reported in the news.
