Conflict Of Interest Dept: It is the second category of the Provincial Nominee Program to be suspended. Immigration Canada suspended the immigrant investor portion of the program in 2008, according to CBC. The entrepreneur stream has been much quieter. Only 43 have come to P.E.I. under that program, and as of October it is shut down entirely and the province of P.E.I. has stopped taking applications for immigrant entrepreneurs in anticipation of changes to the program. Thousands have come to the Island as investors since the program started in 2001, but the final months it operated were controversial, with conflict of interest allegations and concerns about the quality of the companies approved for investment.
