Security Intelligence Service: Keystone Kops

Reid Morden Dept: Elliott, who was appointed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in July 2007 to bring about change to the scandal-plagued force, is a cure much worse than the disease and is poised to implement changes to the senior ranks of the force -- not with efficacy in mind, but retribution, say senior security officials, according to Vancouver Sun. But the process by which the workplace assessment was held was so flawed it can only be described, at best, as incompetent -- a la Keystone Kops -- and at worst, vindictive, akin to having whistleblowers walk the plank into career oblivion and new wash-and-wear pants for the RCMP may save police officers inconvenience and money on dry cleaning, but it will do little to repair the iconic Canadian institution from what ails it most -- Commissioner William Elliott. In response to unprecedented complaints by senior officers to the deputy minister of public safety, William Baker, about Elliott's abusive management style -- including screaming at senior officers, belittling their ideas in public settings and even throwing papers at staff -- Public Safety Minister Vic Toews appointed Reid Morden, former director of CSIS the Canadian Security Intelligence Service to conduct a "workplace assessment" of the RCMP. As reported in the news.
