School Board Officials: Carleton Students

Impassioned Speakers Dept: The pleas came at the first of 10 public consultations the school board is holding about its plans to close five schools, all in east Vancouver, according to Vancouver Sun. One by one, impassioned speakers stepped up to the mic to argue against the closure. They spoke of the historic importance of Carleton to the generations of families that have passed through its halls and the "devastating" impact that closure would have on the tight-knit community if Carleton students were dispersed to more than a dozen schools and more than 500 frustrated parents, students and teachers crammed into a Vancouver school gymnasium on Monday evening, shouting and stamping their feet as they begged Vancouver school board officials not to close their school because of a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall. Monday's meeting, held at Windermere Community School, was to discuss the future of Sir Guy Carleton elementary, a 114-year-old heritage building attended by 380 students in the Collingwood district. As reported in the news.
