Prospective Immigrants: Immigration

Regulatory Regime Dept: Representatives of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants said their members overseas, especially in China and India, have told them certain consultants are wrongly telling prospective immigrants that now is a good time to proceed because the Canadian regulatory body is about to close down, according to Montreal Gazette. The committee is studying proposed changes to legislation and regulations that are designed to crack down on unscrupulous immigration consultants who charge prospective immigrants large fees for advice, that, among other things, often involves the provision of false documents or encouraging applicants to lie. In some cases, immigrants have paid such consultants thousands of dollars only to discover the application was never filed. - Unscrupulous overseas immigration consultants are exploiting uncertainty about Canada's future regulatory regime to lure new clients, a parliamentary committee was told yesterday. Imran Qayyum cited the problem during testimony before the Commons immigration committee. As reported in the news.
