Literacy Initiatives: Leap Of Faith

Collaborative Leader Dept: What does it take to ensure Calgary students succeed? I am proud to be one of the many volunteers to launch Calgary's first public education trust to support primarily CBE students. Thanks to the leadership of CBE trustees and 50 founding supporters who were champions for K-12 students, we now have EducationMatters. It was a leap of faith combined with a sincere belief that the best public education happens when the community is involved, according to Calgary Herald. Our program grants and scholarships have touched the lives of 125,000 students and families. We have affected immigrant, aboriginal and special needs students, literacy initiatives, life skill development and healthy learners. The board and staff of EducationMatters recognize the operational funding from CBE enables us to direct donor investment to support students and grow our capacity. My decision to volunteer for Education-Matters has been one of the best investments I have ever made. Calgarians have embraced the vision and entrepreneurial spirit of EducationMatters and I am confident of its success and re: "CBE charity defends staffing expenses," Oct. 9. EducationMatters has raised $6.3 million in gifts and pledges from generous citizens, foundations and businesses, built up $1.2 million in endowments and granted over $3 million to support K-12 student success. We are a collaborative leader in improving high school completion rates through an initiative called Kafe12. As reported in the news.
