Federal Counterparts: Immigration Minister

Jennifer Howard Dept: The province said Wednesday that results of an independent survey of foreign workers in the Provincial Nominee Program PNP show the program has been so successful that more people should be allowed to take part in it, according to CBC. In 2009, 75 per cent of 13,500 newcomers to Manitoba came here through the program about twice the number that will be allowed to participate in it in 2010 and manitoba immigration officials could be headed for a showdown with their federal counterparts over Ottawa's decision to cap the number of people who can be accepted into a provincial sponsorship program for foreign workers. Labour and Immigration Minister Jennifer Howard said, however, that the federal government recently signaled that the PNP will be capped at 5,000 participants for this year and next. As reported in the news.
