Asylum Seekers: Minimum Sentences

Immigration Minister Dept: Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Public Safety Minister Vic Toews will be in Vancouver on Thursday to unveil their new package of proposed legislation, according to CTV. They say people involved in less severe types of smuggling will face shorter minimum sentences and oTTAWA — The federal Tories are set to announce stiffer jail terms for anybody caught getting involved in human smuggling, in an attempt to make sure Canada does not become the destination of choice for asylum-seekers. Senior officials say anyone caught making money from smuggling more than 50 people into the country will face an automatic jail sentence of at least 10 years. As reported in the news.
