Mohamed Osman: Immigration

Eldest Child Dept: When civil war broke out in Lebanon in 1975, Fadwa watched her family fall apart. Their eldest child, Mustapha, was at the age to attend university but because all institutions were shut down, Fadwa and Mohamed sent him to London for his schooling. After that, they swore that none of their other children would leave the country, but as the war intensified, Amal fled to Canada. Shortly after, Maha and Hanna escaped to Australia, according to Globe And Mail. Years later, Amal was able to sponsor the rest of her family to come to Canada and reunite. Fadwa left her country in 1981 and called Kanata, Ont., her new home. She found it difficult at first to adjust to the language and culture and Canadian winters. But by the end of her life, she proudly called herself Canadian because of the acceptance, safety and opportunities this country offered her and fadwa was one of 10 children of Khadija Osman and Khalid Dennawi, a successful carob-juice entrepreneur. In 1952, Fadwa married Mohamed Osman and moved to Saudi Arabia, where he pursued a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Fadwa dedicated her life to her eight children, Mustapha, Hanna, Mona, Maha, Amal, Marwan, Ghassan and Zeina. In 1965, the family moved back to Tripoli for a better future for the children. Three years later, Amal returned to Lebanon to visit her family. Fadwa insisted on meeting her at the airport despite the relentless crossfire along the highways. Against her husband’s wishes she escorted her daughter from Beirut to Tripoli while ducking in the back seat of a taxi. As reported in the news.
