Quebecers Dept: Cabinet shuffles always stir up a lot of excitement among the chattering classes, who drink up avidly these occasional measures of who's climbing up, and who's sliding down, the slippery pole of preferment. The practical reality, however, is we suspect that most Quebecers would struggle to name as many as, say, four ministers, according to Montreal Gazette. And Line Beauchamp, Quebec's new education minister, speaks hardly any English. Thank you for your support, anglophones and behold the future, Jean Charest told Quebecers yesterday, as he rolled out a reworked cabinet to govern us for the two years or so until the next election. It's not a comforting prospect. This exercise is, in a sense, quite a bit easier for anglophones, who support the Liberal Party so loyally: There are only two Anglo ministers any more. Both were demoted yesterday, Kathleen Weil from justice to immigration, and Yolande James gave up immigration and retains only the family portfolio she inherited last spring when Tony Tomassi was forced to quit. As
reported in the news.
