Visa Requirements Dept: Edgardo Flores Rivas's daughter, a teacher employed in Houston, Tex., on a work permit, wanted to come to Montreal with her brother to visit their parents, who have been stationed here for three years. She was told she'd have to travel to Los Angeles or Washington, D.C., to get the visa Canada's federal government has required of Mexican residents since July 2008, to combat a surge in the number of Mexicans applying for refugee status, according to Montreal Gazette. "If this is my case, can you imagine what is the case of ... unknown Mexicans who are residents in this country who have elderly parents who want to come over? ... What do you do?" Flores Rivas asked and you know the new visa requirements for Mexicans wishing to visit Canada are tough when even the children of the consul general of Mexico can't get in. The Flores Rivas family finally gave up, and mother and father had to fly to Houston to see their children. It was a year and a half before Flores Rivas's daughter was able to obtain a visa to enter Canada -while on vacation back in Mexico. As reported in the news.
