Tamil Refugees: Ocean Journey

Montreal Gazette Dept: The suspected Tamil migrant ship is now inside Canada's 320-kilometre exclusive economic zone and heading for the B.C. coast, a senior federal official confirmed yesterday, according to Montreal Gazette. The ship is thought to be engaged in "human smuggling and human trafficking, which is obviously a very dangerous thing," the federal official said, adding that Canada has unconfirmed reports that one of the passengers has died and after a three-month ocean journey, a ship believed to be carrying as many as 500 Tamil refugees is being escorted by the Canadian navy into British Columbia. "We expect it will land either late this evening or early Friday morning," he said of the 57-metre Thaiflagged vessel called the MV Sun Sea. As reported in the news.
