Robert Reich Dept: The statistics are known, but they always look alarming in print. The U.S. rich get obscenely richer, and the middle class stays the same, according to Vancouver Sun. Reich talks about how, since the 1980s, the economy began a rocket ride, recently ended, which left out the middle. Hourly wages, benefits, health care and pensions have eroded and robert Reich calls himself a "class worrier," as opposed to a "class warrior," and wrote a good piece this week about the dramatic gap between rich and poor in the United States. He was former U.S. president Bill Clinton's labour secretary and is now a professor at Berkeley. But what is completely missing from his remarks, and from the American and developed world "conversation," is the context globally. As
reported in the news.
